About: About Me

JA High Jump Coach

DSC02673.JPG

John Minton was a nationally ranked high school (AAU All American) high jumper, becoming a student of his craft, and capitalizing on his naturally gifted abilities. In absence of a High Jump coach, John developed his own unique skills for being able to quickly identify areas in the High Jump which need to be developed and implement sound, yet creative drills and cues to help achieve success.

In 1990, John entered the military where he ruptured his knee ending his High Jump career.  Following his calling into ministry, John has served the Lord and his community for over 30 years!  He is the Senior Pastor at Everyday Christian Fellowship in Cibolo, Texas. Coach Minton started coaching athletes in the High Jump in 1997.  He has a heart to coach jumpers who are fueled by their passion for the High Jump, and works in overdrive to help them become the best jumper they can—making connections through his coaching, training techniques, encouragement, and relationship building.  John’s desire is to find jumpers early in their career and help them fine tune their approach and over-the-bar technique. John believes in a comprehensive approach to the High Jump.  He will, not only teach his jumpers how to implement important drills,  but will also draw parallels between the drill and the application of the drill in real time jumping.  Most importantly, Coach Minton will help each jumper learn how to approach the High Jump with confidence and mental toughness.

With the use of video recording during training sessions, Coach Minton will help athletes and parents visualize where they currently are along the development spectrum, and understand how to work more independently to analyze their own technique. The ultimate goal is not just that our athletes become all that they can be, but that they will also be able to help others succeed down the road in their journey of life, leaving a legacy of many students who can coach the next generation of High Jumpers.
